Frequently asked questions

Is night carp fishing legal in Yvelines, France?

Yes, on designated stretches defined by prefectural decree. Geocarp lists these venues with maps, access details and angler reports.

Do I need a French fishing licence?

Yes. A valid French fishing licence (carte de pêche) is mandatory and can be bought online at cartedepeche.fr. Some venues require an additional night carp option from the local angling club (AAPPMA).

What baits are allowed at night in France?

Vegetable baits and boilies only. Any carp caught at night must be released immediately — keeping or transporting carp at night is prohibited by French law (decree 2004-599).

Where can you fish for carp at night near Paris, in the Yvelines?

On the Seine, first: the prefectural order in force opens carp fishing at any hour, all year, on eight lots of the river — Triel-sur-Seine, Les Mureaux (two lots), Rosny-sur-Seine, Moisson (two lots), Gommecourt and Bennecourt — outside the reserves at locks and marinas. Six stillwaters are added: Saint-Quentin, the Ilon at Guernes, the Tour at Rambouillet, Sautour at Les Mureaux, the Noës (eastern part) and the Perray (south bank). No carp kept or transported at night; fish from the Seine may not be eaten.

The Yvelines is the closest night-carp department to Paris, and the prefectural order in force opens it on two fronts, all year and at any hour. The first is the Seine, lot by lot, as it loops west of the city: lot 27 at Triel-sur-Seine, lots 31 and 32 at Les Mureaux, lot 43 at Rosny-sur-Seine, lots 45 bis and 46 at Moisson, lot 47 at Gommecourt and lot 50 at Bennecourt — each defined by river kilometre, with no bank designated, and permanent reserves around the locks and marinas (the Mureaux side channel, the Rolleboise–Guernes works, the Bennecourt marina). The second front is a set of stillwaters spread across the department: the étang de Saint-Quentin at Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, the bassin de l'Ilon at Guernes, the étang de la Tour at Rambouillet, the étang de Sautour at Les Mureaux, the eastern part of the étang des Noës at Le Mesnil-Saint-Denis and the south bank of the étang du Perray. The étang du Gruyer at Rambouillet is not on the list. Conditions are those of the order: no carp kept or transported between half an hour after sunset and half an hour before sunrise, and, on the Seine, a separate prefectural ban on eating, selling or giving away the fish. Four private estates round out the offer under their own rules. For a visitor, the Seine lots are within an hour of central Paris by train and the Rambouillet waters sit in the forest south-west of Versailles — a night session that fits around a city trip. Each spot page carries the exact river kilometres or bank the order designates.
